What Is the Safest Seating Position in Front of an Airbag?
If your current driving position leaves less than 25 centimetres between the centre of the steering wheel and the centre of your sternum, you should change your usual driving position:
- by moving your seat as far back as possible from the steering wheel while still being able to easily reach the pedals;
- by reclining the back of your seat slightly towards the rear;
- by lowering your steering wheel if it is adjustable. This will direct the airbag towards your chest rather than your head and neck.
Very few drivers are unable to sit so that their sternum is at least 25 cm away from centre of the steering wheel.
