Second-Hand Seats

It is strongly recommended to avoid purchasing a second-hand car seat, unless you are well aware of its history.

Compliance labelCheck for the following before using a second-hand seat:

  • The car seat has not passed its expiry date. If it is not indicated on the seat, check Transport Canada's Web siteThis link will open a new window.;
  • The Transport Canada compliance label is still on the seat;
  • The manufacturer's instructions are included;
  • The seat has never been in an accident;
  • CAA-QuébecThis link will open a new window. can confirm that the seat has never been recalled by the manufacturer;
  • All of the parts are present and intact (harness, locking clip, chest clip, tether strap, tether anchor and padding).

If a car seat does not meet even one of these criteria, you should not use it.
