Road Safety
School Bus Transportation - Youth Education
Aim
The goal of the program is for children to learn school bus safety rules.
The SAAQ, in partnership with the Ministère de l'Éducation, has developed two education programs for children ages 5 to 12.
The programs include the “Carrousel de la sécurité” (available in French only) and “Chemin faisant” (available in French only), which are distributed to kindergarten and elementary school teachers. The instructional kits include topics that cover school bus transportation, pedestrian and bicycle safety and introduces children to road safety rules.
During road safety campaigns, elementary school teachers are encouraged to carry out extra activities. A teacher's guide and leaflets listing safety tips for children are distributed to elementary school classrooms throughout Québec, along with posters highlighting safety themes (in French only).
The school safety patrol program is also designed to help school children practise safety on their way to and from school.
