The SAAQ is once again broadcasting two messages in order to raise driver awareness about the hazards of writing and reading text messages behind the wheel. This problem currently ranks among Canadians’ greatest road safety concerns.
Cell phones are a part of daily life for many people and, as a result, are in people's cars. The growing use of cell phones at the wheel to send and receive text messages is becoming a serious road safety problem.
The messages show that an accident can happen when a driver's attention is distracted by an absorbing activity like texting.
“Your smart phone isn't smart enough to drive.”
This message goes out to all road users. It features a woman who is active professionally who uses her smart phone... even when she's driving.
“If you're there, you're not really there - behind the wheel.”
This message is mainly addressed to drivers aged 16 to 24. It shows a young man who is texting while driving.
