Driver's Licence

To Correct Information on your Driver's Licence

If an error appears on your driver's licence, you must go to one of our service centres.

No corrections can be made by telephone, except for a change of address.

If you are a Canadian citizen, you must bring along the following documents:

  • Your driver's licence;
  • An original birth certificate issued by the registrar of civil status (Directeur de l'état civil) or by the official issuing authority if the information that requires correction appears on your birth certificate, or your Canadian Citizenship Certificate issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

If you are not a Canadian citizen, you must contact the SAAQ by telephone to make an appointment. You cannot make an appointment over the Internet.

The information clerk will tell you what steps to take based on your situation and give you an appointment.

Bring your driver's licence, if you have one, to the appointment as well as the other required documents (always bring the originals of your documents).

Note

Permanent residents must bring the Confirmation of Permanent Residence document. It is impossible to issue a Québec driver's licence or exchange a foreign licence without this document. A permanent resident card is not sufficient.
