To find a recognized driving school, contact the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr) - French only. If you are a new resident, you must call the SAAQ to make an appointment before registering for a driving course.
A driving course is mandatory to get a passenger vehicle driver's licence (class 5). The driving course includes both a theoretical and practical component.
A motorcycle driving course is mandatory to get a motorcycle licence (class 6A, 6B or 6C). The motorcycle driving course includes a theoretical component and 2 practical components, one on a closed track, and the other on the road.
Moped and Motorized Scooter
A driving course is mandatory to get a licence to operate a moped or motorized scooter (class 6D), except for holders of a class 5, 6A, 6B or 6C probationary licence or driver's licence.
The driving course lasts 6 hours (3 hours of theory and 3 hours of practice on a closed circuit).
Holders of a passenger vehicle driver's licence (class 5) who wish to drive a three-wheeled motorcycle and do not hold a licence to drive a motorcycle (class 6A, 6B or 6C) are required to take a driving course for three-wheeled motorcycles.
This course lasts a minimum of 7 hours (3 hours of theory, 2 hours of practice on a closed circuit and 2 hours of practice on the road).
