Official Translation of a Driver's Licence

An official translation of your driver's licence is required if your licence is written in a language other than English or French. The official translation is useful for understanding and clarifying information that appears on your driver's licence. An international driver's licence is not deemed to be an official translation.

The translation must contain the following information:

• your name;
• the date the licence was issued (if the date appears on your driver's licence);
• the expiry date of the licence;
• the types of vehicles you are authorized to drive (classes).

The official translation must be produced by a member of:

• the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ)
  or
• the Association of Legal Court Interpreters and Translators (ALCIT)
  or
• the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC).
