Activation of a Driver's Licence Plus
To activate your driver's licence Plus, you must have on hand:
- the provisional licence you were issued at your appointment, and
- the licence Plus you received by mail after your appointment.
Licence Plus activation procedure
Before using your licence Plus to cross the U.S. border, you must make sure it is valid by activating it at least 24 hours before reaching the border. We recommend that you activate it as soon as you receive it.
You can use our SAAQclic Online Services to check if your licence Plus is valid (active), following the same procedure you used to activate your licence. A message will indicate if your licence Plus has been activated: if so, it can then be used to cross the border.
If you present your licence Plus at the U.S. border and it is not valid because you did not activate it or because it was cancelled or deactivated, it could be confiscated by customs officers.
Two ways to proceed:
- on the Internet, using the online service To activate a driver's licence Plus
- using the automated response system
Make sure you have the following information on hand
Your driver’s licence Plus and both activation numbers:
- Activation number 1: appears on the provisional licence that was issued at your appointment.
- Activation number 2: received in the mail with your driver's licence Plus.
