Driver's Licence
What is a Driver's Licence Plus?
As of June 1, 2009, anyone who wishes to enter the U.S. by land or sea ports of entry will be required to present a valid passport or another document approved by the U.S. that indicates their identity and citizenship.
A driver's licence Plus is a driver's licence and a travel document that will allow you to cross the U.S. border, whether you are travelling by car, train, bus or boat... (exception: this licence cannot be used to enter the U.S. by air travel).
The licence Plus is a licence that certifies the holder’s driving privilege. All conditions, obligations and penalties that apply to the regular licence also apply to the licence Plus.
Conditions to obtain a driver's licence Plus
- Be a resident of Québec (supporting documents required);
- Hold a valid plastic driver's licence or probationary licence (a licence is not valid if it has been suspended, revoked or has been expired for more than 3 years);
- Have read the Applicant's Guide.

Preparing for an appointment
Before you go to your appointment, you must:
- have filled out the Citizenship Questionnaire (without signing it)
- have filled out the Travel Restrictions Questionnaire (without signing it)
- have on hand two pieces of identification, one bearing your photo, as well as a document proving Canadian citizenship (go to the Applicant's Guide). A passport is not accepted as a proof of citizenship.
