Driver's Licence

Fines

Anyone who drives without holding a valid licence is liable to a heavy fine. For example:

Driving during a prohibition period

* Other fees may be added to the fine provided under the Highway Safety Code (contribution to the IVAC crime victims compensation program, registry fees, etc.).
Following an impaired driving conviction $1,500 to $3,000
Following a revocation due to an accumulation of:
  • 4 demerit points or more, for holders of a learner's licence or probationary licence
  • 8 demerit points or more, for holders of a driver's licence under age 23
  • 12 demerit points or more, for holders of a driver's licence age 23 or 24
  • 15 demerit points or more, for holders of a driver's licence age 25 and older
$600 to $2,000
