Pilot project on recycling undeployed front airbag modules

The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is currently leading a three-year pilot project allowing the Association des recycleurs de pièces d’autos et de camions (ARPAC) to recycle undeployed front airbag modules. ARPAC is a Québec association which has shown the SAAQ that its members can recycle these modules safely.

The pilot project aims to:

• test the recycling process developed by ARPAC while ensuring the safety of passengers aboard road vehicles in which the recycled airbag modules are installed;
• collect information regarding the application of the recycling process developed by ARPAC in order to study, improve and set standards for recycling these modules.
