Dealers and Recyclers

How to Apply for a Licence

All licence applications must be in writing and be accompanied by the following documents, required by the Regulation respecting dealers and recyclers:

  1. a copy of the act of ownership for the place of business as well as lease or property title for every other piece of land where road vehicles, automotive bodies or used parts intended for sale are stored (agreement of sale, title deed, tax bill, lease);
  2. the original signed municipal attestationThis link will open a new window. form (PDF in French; 69 Kb - 1 page) with the seal of the municipality or a duly certified copy of a municipal attestation authorizing your business operations;
  3. a duly certified copy of legal documents concerning your business (letters patent, company charter, declaration of partnership, registration);
  4. the power of attorneyThis link will open a new window. form (PDF in French; 297 Kb - 2 pages) or a certified copy of the resolution mandating a person (individual) to file the application;
  5. the original signed surety bondThis link will open a new window. form (PDF in French; 73 Kb - 1 page) for the appropriate amount;

  Vehicles whose net mass is less than 5,500 kg (no licence is required for trailers and semi-trailers whose net mass is under 1,300 kg) $100,000   $150,000
  Vehicles whose net mass is 5,500 kg and over (including trailers and semi-trailers) $200,000   $250,000

  2. a letter of intent from the auto manufacturer, if applicable;
  3. a cheque or money order made payable to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec. Consult the fees for the issue of a dealer, recycler or dealer and recycler licence.
  4. when ordering dealer plates (X licence plates), a cheque or money order payable to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec. See the rates according to the month in which the licence application is made. Payment by pre-authorized debits is available on request when ordering dealer plates only.

Verify that

All documents bear the necessary signatures.

Validity

A dealer, recycler or dealer and recycler licence is valid for a period of 24 months.
