Mechanical Inspection Agents

Mechanical inspection agents are businesses that have been certified by the SAAQ to conduct mechanical inspections on vehicles that come under the mandatory mechanical inspection program.

Agents perform mechanical inspections on the following types of vehicles:

• vehicles weighing under 3,000 kg (e.g. passenger vehicles, taxis, minibuses, small trucks, etc.);
• vehicles weighing over 3,000 kg (e.g. large trucks, trailers, buses, etc.);
• transformed or modified vehicles, hand-crafted vehicles, damaged or rebuilt vehicles, vehicles from outside of the province for which a vehicle registration application has been filed, vehicles that have been placed in storage or discarded, etc.

Agents also use a photometer to check if a vehicle's tinted windows on either side of the driver meet standard.
