Contribution of Motorists to Public Transit

Owners of a passenger vehicle who live within the area of some municipalities are required to pay an annual public transit contribution. This contribution is non-refundable if a vehicle owner changes addresses. Consult the page entitled Cost of registration renewal for the current year to find out the cost of this contribution.

Owners of a passenger vehicle who live within the area of some municipalities are required to pay an annual contribution to public transport:

  1. Montréal Metropolitan Community
  2. Québec Metropolitan Community
  3. Region of Gatineau:
    • City of Gatineau
    • Municipality of Cantley
    • Municipality of Chelsea
  4. Region of Trois-Rivières:
    • City of Trois-Rivières
    • Saint-Maurice Parish
    • Wolinak Indian Reserve
  5. Region of Saguenay:
    • City of Saguenay
    • Municipality of Saint-Fulgence
    • Municipality of Saint-Honoré
    • Tremblay Township
  6. Region of Sherbrooke:
    • City of Sherbrooke
    • Municipality of Ascot Corner
    • Hatley Township
    • Saint-Denis-de-Brompton Parish
    • Municipality of Stoke
  7. City of Saint-Jérôme

Tax on Passenger Vehicle Registration

As of July 1, 2011, owners of passenger vehicles registered within the Montréal agglomeration are required to pay an additional tax. This contribution is added to the public transit contribution and cannot be reimbursed in the event of a change of address. Consult the Cost of Registration Renewal for the Current Year page to find out the amount.
